Glenn Maxwell Glenn James Maxwell is an international cricketer, who plays ODI and Twenty20 cricket for Australia. He has also played Test cricket for Australia. Stuart Alford recalls handing a questionnaire to his players upon taking charge as captain-coach of South Belgrave Cricket Club, in Melbourne's Dandenong Ranges, early last decade. One question called for the boys and men to detail their ambitions for the season ahead. "He was still in under-14s when I first came to the club," Alford said of a precocious teenager by the name of Glenn Maxwell. "His first comments to me really stood out – 'I want to play some games in the ones this year'. "I actually asked who Glenn was because I only had the sheet. This little kid stuck his hand up. I sort of baulked and went, 'You're fairly confident with your own abilities'. He just sat back and smiled at me. He said. 'I had a good year last year'." "In s

AB de Villiers Profile, News, Retirement, and Records

AB de Villiers Abraham Benjamin de Villiers, known as AB de Villiers, is a South African former cricketer. AB de Villiers made a remarkable last-ditch offer to come out of international retirement for this summer's World Cup, but it was turned down by the South Africa team management on the eve of their final squad announcement. Their thinking was that a recall would, among other things, be unfair to the squad that had been together for the past year since de Villiers announced his retirement. ESPNcricinfo understands that the offer was made in April, just 24 hours before South Africa's selectors unveiled their final 15-man squad for the World Cup. De Villiers did not want to comment on the story, but said he was "wholly focussed" on supporting the South Africa team*. He reiterated his support for South Africa in a tweet. Hashim Amla Hashim Mohammad Amla is a South African international cricketer who plays for South Africa International Team in all three formats of the game. Amla was symbolic of Test batsmen of yore who bid their time to build long innings. It often forced him into an ultra-defensive mode, carefully choosing deliveries to entertain his willow with, a weakness bowlers initially suspected. He was given time to iron out flaws just like his South African side circa 2006. It took another 11 Tests since that 149 for Amla to post a second ton, once again facing New Zealand at home in late 2007 at Johannesburg. It was the first of two consecutive hundreds, opening floodgates in the process. Centuries in India and England a year later marked his adoption to the highest level, atoning for poor displays in those very foreign soils earlier in his career. It also sparked an ODI call-up against Bangladesh in 2008, a position he hasn't relinquished since. As South Africa returned to b

A spin bowler who bowls googly and a right-handed batsman. Throughout his career, Tahir, a leg break bowler, made sporadic appearances for each of these teams which alone suggested that he failed to stick to one place for a longer time and did not live up to his own potential. However, his first-class record was impressive and that earned him a call-up to South Africa's Test squad for their home series against England in 2010. But, on the same day, the decision to include him in the side was overturned as it was found that Tahir was not eligible to play for South Africa at that point of time. The Pakistan-born Imran Tahir, however, continued to impress at the domestic level for Dolphins. He was finally granted South African citizenship in 2011, before
